Galiano Island is easy to get to:
From the Mainland,… your sailing departs from Tsawwassen Ferry terminal.
From Vancouver Island your sailing departs from Swartz Bay and on most days there are four sailings. Reservations are not taken on this route.
Here’s where to find us when you arrive at Sturdies Bay
Galiano Island is a beautiful and tranquil island with many parks and trails for hiking & cycling, and easy access to the ocean shore for beachcombing. The south end of Galiano, where Driftwood Village is located, has grocery stores, gift and craft shops, a pub, a bakery and liquor store but no bank. If you enjoy a more active vacation — golf, kayaking, fishing, diving, and sailing are available. These are a few of our favorite things …
Supplies and Staples
Galiano Garage – Your first Galiano stop should be The Garage – on your left as you exit the ferry terminal. You’ll find
fresh fruit and veggies, lots of snacks and supplies, cold beer and wine and an ATM for ready cash. Most importantly, this is your stop for GAS, at the only pump on the island. The Corner Store – Supplies and goodies are also available at the Corner Store, located at the ‘corner’ of Sturdies Bay & Georgeson Bay Roads. Bottled water, groceries, cold beer and wine, and a variety of fresh & frozen foods are available, as well as movies and snacks. Daystar Market – The organic market across from The Corner Store has a beautiful selection of organic and biodynamic fruit & veg, dairy products and fresh baking, as well as a range of holistic body and cleaning products. Much of the produce and many of the products available are grown and made on Galiano – thank you for Shopping Local!
eat@galianoinn – the restaurant at the Galiano Inn is a true island treat. Luxurious surroundings, friendly service and fantastic (often local) dishes make for a memorable meal, whether it’s wood-fired pizza on the patio or Mel’s Prime Rib on Sundays! Hummingbird Pub – This is our Local, and they truly are “purveyors of the best pub food anywhere!” It’s the go-to spot late at night (kitchen’s open til 10 .. yes, that’s late on Galiano!) and off-season (they are open all year, thank goodness:)
Out and About
Galiano Golf and Country Club – From their website – “What you will notice in playing on the Galiano course is a low key sense of regulation and a high level degree of relaxation Our executive county course will challenge seasoned players as well as being welcoming and friendly to all; children are not only tolerated but welcomed! ” (they are also very much welcome at Driftwood!) Grab a coupon from our Office and enjoy a free cart while you golf! Galiano Kayaks – Whether you kayak all the time, or just want to try it out, the friendly staff at Galiano Kayaks are happy to help. They offer guided tours, kayak rentals and sales.
Arts and Crafts
Many artists and craftspeople make Galiano their home. Studios and Galleries abound, and there are several ways you can meet and greet the artists at work and at play. South Galiano Art Loop – This is a lovely walking tour from Driftwood Village. Our neighbours are a very talented bunch! Check out the website or get a brochure from the Driftwood Office. Galiano Art Tour – Venture a little further afield and the island offers opportunity to explore paintings, pottery, sculpture, fabric arts and much more. There are maps and information available on-line and in the Driftwood Office.
